Delta Fares

I'm supposed to fly out tomorrow nite but thought about leaving tonite BUT Delta says it doesn't have StandBy?

I'm supposed to take a Delta red-eye on Friday night. My schedule changed so I am now able to fly tonight (Thursday). I called up Delta this morning to see about changing my flight but they wanted to charge $363, holy cow!! I called again this afternoon to see if there was a good chance of catching the flight as a Stand By. That's when the Delta telephone rep told me that the airline DOES NOT have a Stand By policy. Really? Wow! I've never flown Delta before but I'm already annoyed with this airline. Any suggestions on how I can catch tonight's Delta red-eye?? Thanks in advance!!! /

  1. Your best chance is to stick with the tomorrow one. Sorry.
  2. I have flown Delta, many, many, many times and first class too on top of that ( which was excellent by the way) on standby. But then again I had a buddy pass. Either way there were people who could not get a regular seat and were offered the first class upgrade for 100.00 more. So why wouldn't they have standby? I think what they meant was that there are charging you the difference between your ticket and the price of the ticket for the flight you wish to board tonight which your going to pay more for period. Now had you missed your flight you would most likely be offered that option to be put on "standby" ( as i have also done many, many, many times) but to leave early I don't think your going to get away with that one without paying more for the convenience.
  3. Wow . Just take todays flight. I was offered $1,600 with lufthansa for 2 people since they had a overbooked flight. If I took the deal I only had to stay 1 more night. But I didn't rofl. I didnt want to stay any longer. You should just leave tonight 363 dollars not bad.
  4. Don't know what agent you talked to, but yes, Delta does have standby. You simply go to the airport, and ask to be put on the standby list for an earlier flight. If a seat is available, they will clear you and put you in it. There could be an additional charge due to the difference in fare bases (how fares are calculated.) This is to keep passengers from buying the cheapest ticket they can, and then just going to the airport to get on whatever flight they want. Standbys are usually not cleared until about 15 minutes before departure. Sorry for the misinformation...
