What procedures happen regarding security and check in at LAX airport?
Hi, I'm flying into LAX on a QANTAS flight from Australia. I then have to go from Tom Bradley Terminal to Terminal 5 to catch a Delta flight to Orlando. I know I have to go through immigration and customs when I arrive, but once I've transfered to terminal 5 what's the process for checking in and getting my bag through security? I know there's something about checked luggage being x-ray scanned. Does this happen before or after I check in for my flight? I read that some scanning happens curb-side - so I'm assuming that means that you scan your bags first then check in for the flight? Hope that made sense and you can help me out with some answers. Thanks!

- Before you check into your flight you will (like any other airport) check your luggage in. You can do it curb side but since you are flying into LAX and departing from LAX (I am assuming a connecting flight) you wont have to go through any security check because you will already be in the airport. If you are flying into LAX and staying, when you go to go home you will have to check your bags in, you can do it outside or inside (either or) and when you go through security they scan your carry on bags and make you empty your pockets, etc. You can't have food or drinks, and nothing over 3 oz in your carry on and if you do they have to be in a zip lock bag.. I hope that helps!
- you can check your baggage though to Orlando although you will have to claim it first when you land at lax and clear US customs, and immigration then there should be an airline transfer desk where you recheck your luggage with (*I think) else you have to recheck with Delta when you get to Terminal 5) Delta for the flight to Orlando your luggage might get scanned in Australia and maybe again before the delta flight you yourself will have to go though TSA security again since its a different terminal
- All I can say for sure is that LAX is very very very strict with the rules. Make sure all your papers are in order and you don't have anything is your luggage you shouldn't have. Bon voyage!!
