Does a Delta/Comair Canadair CR9 use a jetway or airstairs at the gate?
I will be going on a litttle vacation with my girlfriend to Montreal. We will be flying Delta out of JFK. The equipment will be a Canadair CR9, which appears to be a smaller regional jet (seats 70 passengers) My girlfriend has a sprained ankle. boarding the plane thru a jetway wouldn't be a problem, but walking out on the tarmac and up narrow plane stairs might be problematic. I just wonder what they use at JFK Terminal 3 (Delta/Comair) on this type of equipment?

- well usually these planes are regional jets and uses the tarmac stairs from the runway, but in this case you are doing an international flight, so maybe its at the gate. Also you can ask for assistance from the airport personel to help your girlfriend onto the plane if it's trouble getting up the tarmac stairs.
- http://www.jfk-airport.net/files/Images/terminals/JFK-airport-terminal-3-map.jpg most likely you will be at a gate with the Jetway/ stairs. the best thing to do is to call the airline and ask. sounds stupid but they can give you a better answer. if worse comes to worse you can always get a wheel chair put her in there and maybe ask to board the plane ahead of time so you could help her up the stairs. usually smaller planes such as the CRJ-200 or even Regional prop planes is where you wouldn't use a Jetway but I'm 90% postive you will have a jetway...goodluck
- That's the CRJ-900, which is actually one of the larger regional jets. They use jetways most of the time, but it depends on the airport. Even if a jetway is not used, just let the gate agent know about your situation. There are elevators down to the ramp (tarmac) and a portable ramp that can be wheeled up to the aircraft door. <edit> If neither a ramp to the airplane nor a jetway is available, just head to the plane during the preboard process. The gate agent will make an announcement before general boarding that anybody traveling with small children or anyone requiring additional assistance may board early.
- It depends on the airport...many have installed jetways for the regional jets..Just got back from Dallas & was inside the whole time
- Please call the airline to get a positive answer. In pit and msp they use the jetway but in atl 30% of their flights the use the stairs. It all depends on the airport
