Is American Express really worth it?? What about Capital one? Free flights actually available???
I have an AMEX blue card and whenever i check to see if I can get a free flight somewhere none are ever available. I'm thinking about changing cards but I wanted to see what other people get. Has Anyone ever gotten a free flight from AMEX blue? How many points did it cost you? Where did you fly to/from? How far in advance did you book? I am from NYC and was looking to go either europe/ carribean/ hawaii. Not a short flight up to boston or florida. Is the sky miles card better? (i don't really want to be locked into delta though) I am willing to pay the annual fee on a card but I don't want to accumulate tons of miles/ pts and have no flights available. I don't have a ton of points but I'd say i charge about $25,000/ year. AMEX travel agent said I could get a flight to CA for 300,000 pts - seems like a lot to me if 1$=1 pt. What about the capital one card. I've heard its supposidly easy to redeem points but the ppl that tell me haven't redeemed yet

- wow...it takes 300,000 points for a ticket to CA. thats too much. You should give Capital one a try. Close your AMEX card cuz those free flights are never there when you check. Capital one's website says that you can fly for free with 15,000 miles. If you dont like Capital One, give Chase United mileage plus a try. Your only limited to flying with United, but its actually pretty easy to redeem your points for a free ticket. Plus, your points never expire if you keep earning more. I have redeemed points with them and got free tickets before. You can also use your United frequent flyer miles on any airline in the Star Alliance Airline Network Give Capital one a try first. Close your AMEX card...its not worth it.
- I love American Express. I joined AMEX GOLD for $85 a year. Once a year I get a coupon for a companion fare for $99 with a full fare from me. Plus I Charge a little more than you do per year on the AMEX card and mange 3 free flights a year...if..you book 11 months early. Best way to take full advantage of the free flights.

- yeah i would ditch the AMEX card too. the best frequent flyer program by far is Southwest (8 flights = 1 free flight anywhere they go), but unfortunately they don't go to europe
