Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (Alumnae Chapters)...I need your advice, please?
I never thought that I'd be interested in joining a sorority. Nor did I think that a sorority would show any interest in me. However, during grad school, I was approached by an older member of your organization. She asked if I had ever considered DST. I felt honored,& began my research immediately. Loved "In Search of Sisterhood"... read it in one day! Studied your founders, objectives & I volunteered at a senior home for 2 years, every saturday faithfully. Knew some Deltas,& I expressed my interest to them & asked to be a part of any community service in which they were involved. After almost 3 years, DST finally held an interest meeting. I was invited to interview, but denied acceptance. I felt so hurt & confused. I thought being 25 yrs old, married, owning my own home, having a 3.9 graduate GPA, & faithfully serving my community would maybe set me apart from others. I know that it is YOUR sisterhood, and I am owed NOTHING. But I humbly ask...where did I go wrong? Please help...

- Although you may meet the requirements posted on the application, the decision is still left up to the chapter's vote. If Delta is truly in your heart, try again.
- Hi there, Just because you were denied on the first try, do not let that deter you from trying again. When I joined this organization, 7 of my line sisters tried more than once to join before getting accepted. (two tried 3 times). Membership is a lifetime commitment, and even tho your credentials are great on paper, please remember that you must get majority of my soror's vote. In order to do this, it is imperative that you get to know them and allow them to get to know you. This can be accomplish by attending their events, volunteering your services, and just striking up a conversation every now and then. If this is truly in your heart, then keep trying....And if the day comes when you cross over into delta land,,,TRUST me you will say...it was ALL worth it : ) Good luck to you!
