How much does Delta offer to pay to voluntarily give my seat up on a overbooked flight?
I got a message at self check today that my flight has been overbooked. Also if I am flexible they will pay me to give up my seat. How much do you I could get. My flight does not leave for 3 hours. Anybody had this offer?

- There is no set amount. It depends on how badly oversold they are, who shows up, and whether they get enough volunteers on their initial offer, and each successive "sweetening." Besides the dollar amount, you have to consider what form the "compensation" actually takes: Is it a check that you can take to the bank and then use for anything you want? Is it a voucher good for a dollar amount toward any future flight on that airline? Is it a voucher for a free future trip on that airline, without route or date limitation? Is it a voucher good for a dollar amount toward a future flight on that airline, subject to "capacity controls?" Is it a voucher good for any trip on that airline, regardless of dollar amount, but subject to "capacity controls?" Every permutation has to be evaluated a little differently.
- Just ask them how much. They will tell you. When I took a 'bump' a year ago, Delta gave me a $400 voucher for future airfare. Understand, Delta is not going to give you cash. You will get a voucher for a certain amount that you can use to buy future plane tickets. The tickets would have to be purchased directly from Delta. There is an expiration date on the voucher as well.
- it depends on the route, how much oversold, and the wait for the next flight. a flight from boston to laguardia thats oversold by 1 with a flight leaving in another hour will pay less than a transatlantic flight oversold by 10 where you would wait 24 hours. my mom got a $200 bump, then took another one (took the bump from the flight she was put on after taking the original bump) for $400.
