Delta Fares

If I keep getting a credit card and canceling before the next year sign on fee will it do damage to my credit?

I keep getting the delta sky miles card and canceling my card before the end of the first year so I don't have to pay the annual fee (first year is free). I know this helps me gain a lot of discount air fare, but is this damaging to my credit score?

  1. I'm not an expert on credit, but I do know that length of your credit history plays a factor in your score. Closing an account will decrease your history, and therefore hurt your score. You should always keep your longest credit account open for this reason.
  2. It will not do you any good. You need to get a card and utilize it over a long period of time to build up a history.
  3. Everytime you apply for a credit card, you damage your credit score, whether or not you actually get the credit card.
