Delta Fares

I have questions about Delta Sigma Theta Sorority inc.,?

I am a member of mu phi epsilon international professional music fraternity inc., (harmonious gamma eta chapter) and I have had a very strong interest in the great sorority of Delta Sigma Theta ever since high school when our teachers gave the students a step show. I have teachers that are DST and also Q's . I just learned that I have family members who are apart of DST and Omega Psi Phi inc., I was also told that a rec letter could be written for me from one of my teachers. and an older established member of DST showed a very strong interest in me and told me that if i needed anything to call her (if that counts for anything) (i am also the 2005 talent hunt winner for the tau kappa kappa chapter of Omega Psi Phi inc.,) My question is : Will having family members apart of both great organizations aid me further in becoming a member even if I don't go to the same HBCU as they did?(legacy) How do i go about showing interest to the lovely ladies of DST? I don't want to kill my chance

  1. Hi there, If you have family members who are active members of DST, I think the BEST advice I can give you is to reach out to them oppose to asking on the internet. Normally I answer questions for people who are either brand new Greek life and prior to college was never expose to it, and/or do not have any connection to the Greek community at all. You however do have a connection and I am sure you will feel comfortable confiding in them oppose to people you do not know (Just a food for thought). However since you are asking, and to answer your question Yes/No, having family members that are a part of both organization can help you as well as not help you. Confusing? Let me break it down for you. Yes - Greek members can answer "basic" informational questions for you. This is a plus considering there are prospective members out there that don't have this advantage. They can aid you as far the do's and don't when attending Rush, how to show your interests, what is expected, etc. Some family members will also be willing to share some of their experiences. No - Please don't fall into the belief that having family members that are active in the organization that you want to join will guarantee you a spot in becoming a member. This is NOT the case ESPECIALLY in Delta. You will have to go through the exact same process as prospective members who do NOT have family/close friends that are members of the organization of your choice. I hope this answers your question, and if you would like to know more about Greek-Life in general, please sign up and follow me on my blog at www.blackgreeklife.blogspot.com Good luck to you!
  2. It depends on where you pledge. Being legacy does not automatically entitle you to membership in DST. It can, however, help you because your family members/ friends that are Deltas should be able to groom you for membership and answer some of your questions. If you have a strong interest, start by talking with them to get guidance. You should also reach out to your local chapter to make them aware of your interest and to attend a rush to find out more about the pledge process. The teacher who is an established member may be able to provide additional insight. You can also get information from the local chapter websites or from the national website. ...Bottom line: You have plenty of resources. Use them! http://www.deltasigmatheta.org/
