i am so afraid! help! delta airlines experience?
I recently purchased delta airline tickets for my boyfriend and I. I'm really scared because I just read all of the reviews.... EVERY single review was horrible, something about an extra charge, extra delay, etc. is there anyone who had positive flight with them? AHHHHH I WANT TO GET MY MONEY BACK AND GET A NEW FLIGHT!!! also.. will they pay for my hotel and stuff if the flight "Delays" or anything like that? because our hotel in Florida already has reservations.

- Do you believe everything you read........fly with them and decide for yourself.........you won't get your money back........so chill........and when they load your baggage look out the window and I read in a tabloid out they hired "Big Foot" to help load luggage.......
- Unless you specifically purchased a refundable ticket, Delta isn't going to give your money back simply because you ask them to. (The chances are good that you didn't buy a refundable ticket if you purchased the cheapest available flight -- refundable tickets are usually significantly more expensive than the cheapest fares.) As to whether Delta (or any airline, for that matter) will provide accommodations or compensation in the event of a delay, it depends on the reason for the delay. If it's something within the airline's control (such as a mechanical delay), then they would provide a hotel if necessary, and may be likely to reimburse you for other expenses incurred if you ask (such as covering the cost of that hotel at your destination that you already booked and paid for). If the reason for the delay is beyond the control of the airline (such as weather, air traffic control delays, or a volcano), then the airline is under no obligation to provide a hotel or other compensation for flights in the US.
- Take a deep breath and relax - really. Every single airline gets terrible reviews - and they also get great reviews. I personally think the people who did not like their flight are more likely to complain about it. I have flown lots of different airlines. None are always bad, and none are always good. There is much that neither you nor they can control, like weather and mechanical delays. In addition, much of how you feel about any flight depends on your own attitude. If you approach it in a aggressive, combative, "I have my rights", "how dare you treat me like this", "what is wrong with all of you people" manner, then you are almost sure to have a lousy flight, because you will make the experience a bad one all by yourself. When you project anger, you will be treated as an angry person - which is usually not going to turn out well. Chances are that there are other people on that same flight who would say it was fine. You seem to already assume that you will be delayed - most flights are not delayed, and most delays are actually relatively short. Why anticipate the worst possible or least desirable outcome? You hear about the worst cases in the news, and sometimes I certainly would agree that the airlines are actually pretty stupid in how they handle some situations - but you should know that there are about 28,000 flights within the US on an average day - 28,000 - and most of them are just fine. You don't hear about the 27,999 that were OK - only about the one that was really bad. Your rights and the way in which the airline must try to meet them are spelled out in the "terms of carriage" that you agreed to when you bought the tickets (Oh yes you did agree to them - there was probably a little check box next to a link to that document, and you had to put a check mark in that box that said you had read them before you could proceed with the purchase). You can go back at any time and read those terms. Might be a good idea, actually, so that you understand what the airline owes you and what it does not.
