How do you express interest in Delta Sigma Theta?

I understand that you should go to events, do community service and things of that nature. But, in my case it seems as if I never run into any or if I do I really don't know what to say. For example, what if there is a Delta in my class, I should say _________ without being obvious. Or the president of a very large club that I am in, how do I get close to her without being obvious? But other than these specific questions, if given the opportunity to express interest whether it be over the phone or in person how should my side of the conversation go and also what kind of questions if any will the person ask?
