Is it possible for a U.S. citizen to become a flight attendant for an international airline?

I was considering a job with Cathay Pacific, All Nippon Airways, or Japan Airlines. I was born in the United States and I was taught in Cantonese and Japanese. I was checking on the different international airlines websites, and a majority says that you need to be a permanent residence of that country in order to work for them.
