Last minute upgrade to business class on Delta?

I always fly coach and drool at the size of the seats in business class but can never bring myself to pay the big fare. I have a couple long international flights coming up on Delta. Has anyone ever upgraded at the counter just before the flight? If so, was it expensive?

1. It will depend on your class of ticket. Economy has 2-4 different types on Delta. If your ticket is non-refundable then you will not be able to upgrade. If you are able to upgrade it is basically like re-ticketing the trip and they charge you at the higher rate applying your economy fare to the price and you have to pay the difference. Yes, it is still expensive. Good luck!
