Delta Fares

Has anyone flown a dog as checked baggage with Delta Airlines?

I have been researching about flying my pitbull with me on vacation. I really do not want to board her because 13 days is a long time. Also, my friend that is watching our other two dogs does not have a fence that will keep our pit from escaping. So we are worried she will get out, so we really do not want to leave her. Thus, we are flying Delta and was thinking about flying her with us as checked baggaged because she is too big as a carry-on. Also, do not reccommend that pet only flight; they do not go to the city we are heading to. I really want to know of any experiences with Delta Airlines that anyone has had while flying with pets. Thank you so much!

  1. We have checked our hamster with Delta and it was fine
  2. Seesite below for your options with Delta.
  3. Just FYI, it is not against the law for an airline to ask for proof that a passenger's animal is a service animal. Documentation can be required by the airline if the passenger's verbal assurances are not credible (the DOT has suggestions for how to determine if the passenger's claim is credible), or if the service animal is for emotional support. So don't claim your dog is a service animal unless that's really true.
