Has anyone flown a dog with Delta Airlines as checked Baggage?
I have been researching about flying my pitbull with me on vacation. I really do not want to board her because 13 days is a long time. Also, my friend that is watching our other two dogs does not have a fence that will keep our pit from escaping. So we are worried she will get out, so we really do not want to leave her. Thus, we are flying Delta and was thinking about flying her with us as checked baggaged because she is too big as a carry-on. Also, do not reccommend that pet only flight; they do not go to the city we are heading to. I really want to know of any experiences with Delta Airlines that anyone has had while flying with pets. Thank you so much! Whoever wrote rotts.. I don't have a rott, I have a pitbull. Just to let you know and I checked and they allow them. It cost 175 for a one-way ticket. So whoever wrote 600, I am glad we are not flying your airline or you were WAY over charged.

- I've flown with dogs as checked baggage all over the US and on many airlines without a problem. Sit in a window seat on the loading side and you can watch her crate being loaded. They should also provide you with a baggage tag that is given to you once her crate is safely on board. Pick direct flights if possible.
- Delta won't allow Rottweilers on airplanes:(
- It will cost you over, the price of your ticket. For a lab it was $600.
- <<<<<My dog Chynna (17" 28# Border Collie) flew on Delta Airlines as checked baggage from Albuquerque, NM to Columbus, OH in 2007 to compete at the AKC National Agility Championships. I was a little nervous about it beforehand. Although Chynna is a seasoned traveler, it was her first time flying. There was no direct flights, going we had 1 short stop in Atlanta, total travel time was 5 hrs. Then coming home 1 short stop in Cincinnati, total travel time 5 hrs. Delta took excellent care of Chynna. Treated her like a celebrity! I sat by the window & watched them load her. We had a slight delay on the ground in Atlanta. The baggage handlers waited to load her crate & asked the flight attendant to ask me if they could offer her some water. Of course I agreed & I watched the guys fussing over her from my seat. The flight crew made sure Chynna was on-board & that I knew she was on-board before take-off each time to put my mind at ease. I would fly a pet checked baggage with Delta again without hesitation. I'm looking at flying my little Aussie from Albuquerque to Kentucky for the USDAA Championships in the fall. I'll most likely fly Delta again. You can read the rules for flying a pet checked baggage on the Delta website. Call their 1-800 number to ask about arrangements & cost. Source(s): personal experience
- I fly Delta with dogs 40-50 times a year. No problem. However, on the last 2 trips, they've begun something new...BRB Sorry...had to breed some dogs. Anyway, they've recently decided to ask for a "temperature acclimation" statement from ther vet. Well, that is generally written on the health certificate...which Delta does not require for domestic flights when checking the dog as Baggage. So, you might get one, just incase anywhere you're going to fly or layover is below 45 degrees F. I've been taking dogs through the same airport for years, so I managed to argue my way out of it...but it would be best if you go prepared for new BS. And yes...it's still $175 for a 500 crate. ADD: Keep in mind, although it says "any Delta aircraft" when looking at their website....they will NOT accept a 500 crate on Canadair or Embraer jets.
