- First buy the FAA A&P reviewer. Then, take the exams. You won"t go far without the FAA license.
- First off, your going to need your Airframe and Powerplant license given by the FAA. You should call American Airman (www.americanairman.com) in New York who helps people achieve that license in under 10 days. Then you can go to Delta's Website and apply to be a mechanic. It always helps to have a friend in the business too.
- After 13 years as a mechanic for a major airline I would recommend that you find another career. You will work nights and weekends forever. Low pay for the work you do and all the chemicals will kill you. Go work for your local Lexus dealer they have better pay and better hours. The auto industry is much more stable they don't hi-jack or blow up Lexus'. You don't want to start over when your in your 30's or 40's like 20,000 laid off major airline mechanics have done since 9-11.
- Join the Air Force or Navy and let THEM train you on how to properly work on jet engines.. plus you'll get money for school too. Hard to beat that deal.
- Have to go to school to get your A&P and right out of school get a hold of Delta. for it you don't and go to work on small air craft they wont talk to you till you have the hours on large air craft.
- They are all wrong. You dont HAVE to have your airframe and powerplant license. I am an ex delta mechanic. There are 2 jobs on delta.com right now that dont require a license. The dept 206 job is an interior mechanic, you wont get a license premium without your airframe and powerplant but you can get while working there then move upto an AMT slot. Also there are mechanic helper jobs, same pay as 206 and same deal. Good luck.
