Delta Fares

If you fly two different airlines with bages, Do you still have to check-in again?

My parents are sending my bags before because its expensive to check bags....So I will just have a carry on bag for both Delta and then Alligiant. I hve never fly different carriers an dont know if I have to go through security again or if i can just check in online and be good for my flight.

  1. Usually the airlines will transfer the bags from one airline to the other. As far as going through security again, it depends on if the airlines are in the same terminal or not. If they are in different terminals, then yes you will have to go through security again.
  2. You do not need to check-in again once you've already checked in IF you're able to get both boarding passes for the 2 carriers when you check in online. However, depending on the airport you're flying through, you may have to exit security & go back through it in order to get to the terminal for the 2nd airline....Miami International is like that, but Atlanta International is not like that.
  3. you'll need to check in with the agent at the gate for your transfer flight. often when you check in online or at the first airline the voucher you're given is for the first airline and the agent at the second airline will give you a ticket for their airline. You shouldn't have to go through a security check point to change flights even if it's on a different carrier. most airports have the terminals arranged so you don't have to go back through security. They may search your carry on at the gate before boarding--but there is no guarantee that they will. I've been on several flights in the last 8 months where a lot of the passengers are transferring over from another airline and security has set up a check point at the boarding gate to search everyone's carry on as they boarded the plane.
  4. To be safe, I would check in with the airlines on this one. Did your parents pay for each leg of the flight separately? I ask because Allegiant has only nonstop flights, they don't have any connections at all. I think it is very possible that you WILL have to check in with Allegiant as soon as you get to your connecting airport, and then go through security again. Unless you have an Allegiant counter at the airport you are flying out of, then I don't think you will be able to get an Allegiant boarding pass from there. They aren't like major airlines, they have nonstop air service to a group of major tourism cities from mainly regional airports around the U.S., as well as nonstop return service. Definitely get in touch with the airlines on this one.
  5. Um, so if your parents are sending your bags before hand and you're not checking bags, the bags have nothing to do with the question. You can check-in online for both flights online, and if you do so (which I recommend you do) you won't have to worry about checking in at the airport. You'll have both of your boarding passes printed, so all you need to do once you arrive to your connecting airport is check the monitors for your gate of departure on your next segment (since it may have changed since you checked in) and head over. Most airports have or are in the process of making airside connections between terminals so that you do not need to re-clear security. However, this is not true of all airports, so you should check before you leave.
