Is the Delta Companion Ticket usable on multi-city bookings?

The wife and I have a Platinum American Express Delta card that offers us a companion ticket every year. We've used them before for basic round trip fares, however this time around we are looking to do a multi-city trip. For example, flying from our home in Alaska to Las Vegas, then to Atlanta, and then back to Alaska. Would we be able to purchase one full price fare and have the other fall under the companion ticket? These things have lots of "fine print". This isn't a Delta program, its operated by a third party company that doesn't think to tell you specifics until 45 minutes into a phone conversation.
