its been a hell of a time trying to plan a trip to Hawaii?

long but please read if you have had problems with stupid airline companies. hi. im going to the big island in a few weeks. im trying to book my flight. sure, theres LOTS of flights open to fly to Kona. i have a friend im going to stay with there. my dad said he had "reward miles" from alaska airlines. i, being a total noob at air companys, thought that that meant i could book a flight anywhere. so i looked at united. wonderful plane, non stop flight straight to Kona. tons of space available. my dad thought alaska airlines was affiliated with united. its not. well, so much for that. so i looked on the alaskan airline site. under "mileage plan" and "award reservations" it lists airlines their affliated with. so one of them was Northwestern. i go to northwestern airlines site, find a flight. not so good as the first one but hey, i was fine with it. my dad printed the sheet for reference and called alaska airlines. they so "no, you cant book a flight with them" EVEN THOUGH they SPECIFICALLY SAID on the site you could. way to go false advertising. they said we need to go to alaska airlines flight, and click on "reservations", and then "award reservations". then search under that. lo and behold they are the WORST FLIGHTS POSSIBLE at the WORST times. and northwestern flights were not even on the list of options. on top of that, they pick only certain flights you can go on. the one they gave me, was, from SFO to LAX. then when i get to LA, i have to wait 9 HOURS before i get on the next plan to fly to kona. ridiculous! alaska airlines sucks. they advertise things that are not true. has anyone else had any problems with this mileage reward crap? has anyone else had to wait 9 hours or more, and thats without delay? btw. im only 20, this is my first plane flight, and im going by myself.

  1. This is not false advertising but it is true the Airlines dont make it easy for you to use your miles. Alaska is connected with several companies that fly to Hawaii. Call their awards desk and get help. It is possible that you wont find any seats available at the time you want to fly. They have this ridiculous way of separating revenue (purchased seats) from non-revenue (using miles) I feel as though it is totally arbitrary and unfair but that is what they do, so your only chance is to call the airline that you have the miles with directly and see what they can offer you. Good luck, I know its sometimes frustrating.
  2. I just got back from hawaii today. Trust me, it will be worth it. But seriously, all that the airline is puttng you through is BS. I would just book with a different airline, flights to hawaii are at record lows now, and save the Alaskan miles for later.
  3. you should try Yahoo Travel, people write out what they did on vacations. It will give you ideas and timelines etc.
