Delta Fares

If I have 5,000 delta sky miles, do I get a free ticket? how does it work I dont understand?

okay so I dont really get how it works I read the rules and I still dont get it For base fares equal to or greater than $100 and less than $250: Redeem 10,000 miles for $100 off the total fare or Increase the redemption to 25,000 miles and increase in increments of 5,000 miles ($50 off) to cover the total fare. For base fares equal to or greater than $250 and total fares less than $1,000: Redeem 10,000 miles for $100 off the total fare or Increase the redemption in increments of 5,000 miles ($50 off) to cover all or part of the total fare (15,000 miles for $150 off, 20,000 miles for $200 off, etc.). soo does this mean that I need 15,000 miles to get at least 100 dollars off a ticket purchase??? so 5,000 miles is really nothing?

  1. No, you can get $100 off for 10,000 miles; but yes, 5,000 miles will get you nothing.
  2. 5,000 miles won't get you anything. you'd have to get twice as much to get one of those super cheap, super restricted fares. in order to get a normal free ticket you are going to need 25,000 miles for a 'saver' ticket in coach. for a decent flight time and for a first class ticket will cost 50-80,000 miles.... PLUS all fees that are not mentioned. you have to pay to redeem your miles, taxes, fees, etc. plan to spend at least $150 on additional fees after you redeem your miles.
